Sharing the contents of Baby’s, Mom’s and my Postpartum Hospital Bag (however, my PP bag stayed home). Also, a few things that I didn’t bring, but wished I did:
This post contains affiliate links:
- Fawn Design’s Diaper Bag– We have the original size. It’s great to fit infant and mommy items!
- Swaddle Blankets
- Blurp Cloths– These are actually cloth diaper inserts, but they are so soft/gentle that we use them for blurp cloths. If they become really dirty, they are easy to bleach clean. A slight investment, but we used them with my first and I didn’t need to buy anymore for my second!
- Wipes– We bought some packs online. I have a few friends that have wipes subscription to Amazon- something to check out if you haven’t yet.
- Hanna Anderssons’ PJs– One of our favorite PJ companies. My oldest had a pair when she was an infant and she wore them for months because stain were easy to clean. We especially love their matching Christmas jammies!
- Plain Onesies– Always great to have some plain shirts for the little one!
- Fawn Design’s Clutch– Includes a changing mat and wipes storage container.
- Pinxav– One of our favorite diaper rash ointment companies. Fun fact- this company was started in the 1920’s here in Ohio (Cleveland).
- Rockermama– Transform any chair, couch, bed, etc,. into a rocker with this product! At night, I keep ours next to the bed and during the day, I keep it on the main floor. Anyone can use it and it’s very comfortable for all.
- Mark and Graham Cosmetic Bag– I used mine for all my toiletries!
- Mark and Graham Carry On Bag– Made it easy on my husband to have a bag on wheels!
- Nursing Bras– I purchased this pack on Amazon and I’m happy with the comfort and support it gives. The padding inside the bra can be removed and replaced with disposable/reusable nursing pads.
- Cellphone Charger- I didn’t want to worry about packing our everyday chargers if I needed to quickly get to the hospital. Instead, I bought a charger for myself and my husband and kept it inside our hospital bag.
- Pillows– With my first child, a friend recommended bringing my own pillows to the hospital and I’m glad I did because those hospital pillows don’t give much support.
- Nursing Covers– During our hospital stay, we had visitor/medical professionals in our room almost round the clock. I’m glad I had a cover so I didn’t feel awkward nursing in front of Dr’s or friends/family.
- Boppy Pillow– Give your arms a break and use this pillow for nursing support. Even better, the pillow grows with your child for the first year!
- Lush Products– I’m not a fan of hospital smells, or their soaps. For me, it was great to have a product that reminded me of home and felt great on my skin post delivery.
- Belly Bandit Mother Tuckers– Hands down, these are one of the greatest postpartum leggings. They offered compression support yet lightweight and breathable. During pregnancy, I used the pregnancy leggings and wore them almost daily because of their support.
- Clear zipper pouches– I used the large bag for my PP items and the smaller ones inside my purse, diaper bag, daughter’s school bag, etc. I really liked the clear bags because they are see-through and easy to clean when dirty.
- Mesh Undies– For those first few days at home.
- Tucks Pads– An alternative to the ice pads.
- Dermoplast– Some extra support down there.
- Perinatal Spray
- Nursing Pads– Once your milk starts coming in, you’ll be glad that you have some!
- Nipple Butter- Great product for sore/cracked nipples from nursing.
- Bed Pads- I slept with mine on the bed starting at 37 weeks, but I’m glad I had some extra to minimize washing the sheets post delivery.
- Breastmilk Storage Bags Depending on your pumping/non-pumping plans.
- Postpartum Squirt Bottles- I was glad to have a few extras around the house.
Although I was pretty satisfied with my hospital bag choices, there were a few items that I forgot to bring:
- Hospital Robe- I didn’t have one with my first, but said I would get one for the second child- which I didn’t. It would have been nice to have one to quickly get dressed/undressed.
- Slippers/flip-flops- Unfortunately, the shoes I wore to the hospital were a little tight. After delivery, I had some swelling in my feet so it was difficult to get my shoes on and off.
- Long-sleeved shirt- Although my baby was born in the summer, the hospital was pretty chilly at nights. A long sleeve would have come in handy.
