Goldfish Swim School Lessons

Over the summer, my daughter participated in some swim lessons at Goldfish Swim School (GSS). My goal was that she would know skills and techniques for survival swim lessons. Since the summer was beginning, I wanted to make sure if she fell into a pool or body of water, she would know techniques of survival swim training.

Although GSS doesn’t primarily focus on just survivor swim training, they do have components of it built into their curriculum. They work on how to pull yourself out of the water (from the side of the pool), back floating and developing muscles to “kick and pull” the water to get to safety.

My daughter’s first 2 lessons were spent screaming in the water through most of the activities. At one point, I felt like it was more of a burden to keep her in the classes, but on her 3rd lesson- she warmed up! She enjoyed the activities, songs and even warmed up to the teachers when they jumped in to assist parents with helpful tips.

The skills she learned with Goldfish, gave her the confidence to use her puddle jumper with little to no assistance. She’s also built confidence submerging her head under water and swimming short distances underwater opening her eyes! I’m glad that we persevered through the first few lessons because if we would have stopped lessons, we would miss the large growth our daughter made in a short amount of time.

If you decide to check out a GSS, here are a few facts:

  • Lessons are 30 minutes.
  • Parent to student ratio is 4:1.
  • Parents and older children can watch their loved ones from behind a glass window.
  • Pool is 90 degrees.
