6 Playroom Purge Tips

One of the hardest places to keep clean is the playroom. Little hands grabbing items, then the presence of new toys for birthdays, holidays and special events. It’s a constantly used space that’s hard to keep clean. Here are 5 tips to help and keep your playrooms clean during the year.

  1. Start going through toys when kids aren’t present.

You’ll save time quickly moving around the house gathering toys to donate.

2. Throw away toys with missing parts.

My rule is, if you don’t find the missing toy(s) by the end of the month. It’s unlikely you’ll find it at all.

3. Don’t ask kids, “do you still want this.”

They will more than likely reply yes. If you’re unsure, grab toys about pack in a reusable container. After a few weeks, if the toys aren’t mentioned, they are fair game for donation.

4. Just because it was given to you don’t mean you need to keep it. If your kids outgrow something or never had an interested in a toy given to them, it’s ok to donate it or pass it along to someone else who will enjoy it.

5. Toss those “easy to break toys.”

Happy Meal, Party Trinkets, those types of toys. If you kids are enjoying their toys, that’s different

6. Ask for experience gifts instead of toys.

Help yourself minimize the amount of toys accumulated by requesting gifts that provide an experience (i.e. zoo/aquarium membership, summer pool passes, sports lessons/equipment. That allows others to contribute to the experience and memories.
