Hocking Hills

Over the summer, our family took a fun trip to Hocking Hills. Hocking Hills is located roughly an hour outside of the city of Columbus. Since our trip was during my third trimester of pregnancy, we wanted to stay close. Also, in 2019, The New York Times rated Columbus as one of the Top 50 Cities to visit! Although Hocking Hills is roughly an hour outside the city, it still benefits as being a great place to visit for a quick getaway.

There are a few retreat companies in Hocking Hills, but we chose: Ohio Luxury Lodging’s Bourbon Ridge Retreat. One of the main reasons was the quick response rate from the Ohio Luxury Lodging staff. Another reason we chose Ohio Luxury Lodging was the beautiful, neat, modern-looking interior and appliances.

Since Bourbon Ridge Retreat is in a remote location, cellphone coverage was limited during our commute. I would recommend taking screen shots of the directions in the event you lose cellphone coverage (like we did).

Once we got to the entrance of Bourbon Ridge Retreat, there were arrows and signs with cabin names to direct us to our cabin along their dirt road path. When we pulled into our cabin, we were pleasantly surprised how peaceful and quiet our cabin area remained. Although, through the clearing, the other cabin was visible (both cabins shared a large pond), our cabin area remained quiet for our stay.

When we arrived at our Hocking Hills cabin (The Booker’s Cabin), we were impressed regarding the cleanliness and space inside the cabin.  Bourbon Ridge Retreat thought of everything! There were silverware, dishes, extra towels, cleaning products, firewood, fire starter logs (to help start your fire), etc. There were lists inside the drawers to give an inventory and assistance for guests when returning items to the drawers.

Inside our cabin, we had a kitchen (complete with bar stools), dining room (with a timed fireplace), movie theatre room. Inside the movie theatre room, there was a pull out couch and two larger armchairs. Additionally, Bourbon Ridge Retreat provided a few movies and games that we used during our stay! The cabin had a bedroom (with a king sized bed) and large bathroom complete with a walk-in shower.

Outside the cabin was a 4-seater table with a fan and lamp above, outdoor fireplace and a heated jacuzzi tub that also served as a pool. From first glance, the pool looked small, but we were able to get everyone inside (4 adults and 1 child) and still had plenty of space to move around.

Since the cabin is surrounded by woodlands, Bourbon Ridge Retreat does spray for bugs using products that are kid-friendly. During our stay we didn’t see any bugs inside our cabin; however, since you are in the wilderness, keep in mind you might see a few spiders or other insects.

Choosing a cabin/lodge..

In addition to cabins, Bourbon Ridge Retreat offers beautiful spacious lodges. Cabins accommodate a maximum of four guests and lodges accommodate 16-24 guests. View the below links to see each cabin/lodge.

The Makers Lodge (24 guests)

Angels Envy Lodge (24 guests)

The Ridgemont Lodge (16 guests)

Why Bourbon Ridge Retreat?

Bourbon Ridge Retreat is a little pricer than some of the other Hocking Hills resorts; however, guests are really getting a high quality resort experience:

  • Newly renovated cabins and lodges with high-end modern appliances.
  • Free wifi and a landline phone with complimentary long distance.
  • Controlled air conditioned units in each room.
  • Extremely attentive staff who are focused on providing the best experience possible and will go the extra mile for your quality and comfort.
  • Fun, onsite activities including walking the suspension bridge, camping in a tipi, utilizing the five mile hiking trail, corn hole.
  • Great for families with kids as the resort provides family friendly environments and equipment/supplies (i.e. extra linen, blankets, soap, utensils/silverware, etc). Having these supplies on hand allows you more time with friends/family and less running to the store.
  • Quiet and spacious land surrounding the cabin/lodge to maximize your resort experience.

Things to do in Hocking Hills…
