10 Pumpkin Patch Tips

Happy Fall!

Over the weekend, my family and I visited a local pumpkin patch. Since we have a newborn, I wanted to do while the weather was still warm enough for her to be outside. Below I’ve provided some tips to ensure you and your family have a wonderful adventure at your local pumpkin patch this fall season.

  1. Wagon. Lots of pumpkin patch farms have some type of wagon to transport your pumpkins around the farm. As a suggestion- call ahead and make sure one is provided and if not, wagons are a great substitute and perfect for hauling pumpkins around as well as your little pun-kins inside.
  2. Cash. Some pumpkin patch farms are cash only for activities like hayrides and feeding animals at the petting zoo. Make sure to stop at the ATM beforehand and grab some cash before heading out.
  3. Extra towels. In the event of a rainy day or a dirty pumpkin patch, it’s always a great idea to have a few towels handy.
  4. Boots or extra shoes. On our pumpkin patch adventure, we had some unexpected rain which created some dirty shoes. I typically don’t mind, but my little one tracked some yucky stuff into the car and house.
  5. Tissues and allergy meds. If the hay, or changing seasons, makes your nose itchy, makes sure you are prepared! There is nothing worse than having itchy eyes and nothing to medicate for it.
  6. Lunch. A friend of mine actually suggested this! I usually always have snacks in my bag when we are away from the house. Lunch was such a great suggestion so we could stay longer and prevent a mad rush home to eat.
  7. Tile. Clip one onto your keys and your don’t have to worry about misplacing them!
  8. Planning. Since we have a toddler, I’ve found it beneficial to arrive upon opening to avoid the crowd. Especially on the weekends. If you’re available to go during the week, you might avoid more of the weekend crowd as well.
  9. Weather Appropriate Clothing/Accessories. Weather in the Midwest is unpredictable so make sure you are prepared.
  10. Hand Sanitizer. Fall season typically is the start of flu season so protect yourself and your family with clean hands.
