Celebrate Juneteenth as a Family

If you’re looking for ways to celebrate Juneteenth this year, here are four ways to get everyone involved in a fun, lively and beautiful holiday!

  • Find an event in your neighborhood:

While the pandemic is changing the way we celebrate, there are parades and fair popping up all over. If you’re a Columbus local, here’s events happening in our city for Juneteenth.

  • Rent books from your local library:

There are some beautiful books to help children learn about the world around them! Here are a few great books to introduce your kids to Juneteenth and Black History:

  1. Juneteenth for Maize
  2. All Different Now: Juneteenth
  3. Juneteenth
  4. And more
  • Visit an exhibit or museum dedicated to Black Culture:

A museum visit is a great way to tell the story, relive the journey and embrace sacrifice of many who came before us. Check out some local museum in your area.

  • Host your own backyard party:

Juneteenth is a holiday, and a backyard party is a great way to celebrate! Fire up the grill or order food from a Black-owned restaurant. Some of my favorite food choices are:

  • Green Beans
  • Mac and Cheese
  • Greens
  • Chicken
  • Ribs

If you’re a Columbus local, here’s a link to some Black Owned restaurants.
