If you can, try and learn as much as you can about how your parent’s insurance works. Some insurances provide case workers who assist you with resources available to your parent. Sometimes there case workers are extremely helpful and other times, they are just trying to pass you along.⠀

If you find yourself dealing with a difficult case worker, try and charm them! Send them a gift card, or a small gift. We’ve had a few pleasant and a few that were not helpful at all. Since I knew that I needed the expertise of these case workers, I would send them a small gift to let them know that I appreciated their help (which I did) and those “difficult” case workers became assets. Remember, until you can learn all you need- they are the expert and you can learn from them. Also from their perspective, sometimes these case workers deal with very rude people. If you can stand out, they will appreciate a positive attitude and make themselves more available.
