This past weekend, we went apple picking at a local Ohio farm. We got home, and I was determined to use up the apples before they went bad. One way, making homemade Apple Cider. Enjoy!
Ingredients:
8 apples
1 orange- peeled and sectioned
4 cinnamon sticks
2 teaspoons nutmeg
2 teaspoons whole cloves
1/2 teaspoon whole allspice (optional)
12-16 cups water
1/3-2/3 cup brown sugar
Instructions:
- Wash apples and oranges and cut apples into eights. Place inside of your slow cooker.
- Stick the cloves in the orange and add it to the slow cooker.
- Add cinnamon sticks, nutmeg and allspice.
- Cover with water. Cook on high heat for 3-4hrs or on low heat for 6-8hrs.
- About an hour before the cider is finished, use a potato masher to Mac the apple slices once soft. Finish cooking one more hour.
- Strain the cider juice in a pot or pitcher. Stir in your desired amount of sweetener until dissolved. Serve hot.
Enjoy!!
